UM sponsors Speakers for 2014 Lymphedema Awareness Month

Upstate, South Carolina - Upstate Monarchs is again scheduling two sessions for this year's Lymphedema Awareness Month Celebration. A national effort by the Lymphedema Network, Lymphedema Awareness Month's goal to expand knowledge and awareness about Lymphedema to patients, care givers, health professionals and the public at large. Upstate Monarchs has arranged two sessions this month as our part of that effort. March 5, 2014, 5 PM | Earth Fare Community Room

Greenville Community Meeting will sponsor Jeanne Nourse, ORT/L CLT-LANA, as its main speaker.

Jeanne Nourse is an Anderson Occupational and Lymphedema Therapist who runs the Lymphedema Center for AnMed Health Rehab Plus. She is a nationally board certified therapist who has been practicing for 25 years as an occupational therapist and for 15 years treating lymphedema. She is nationally board certified by the Lymphology Association of North America, a member of the National Lymphedema Network and also stays current in her Dr. Vodder School certification.

Ms. Nourse will speak about compression garments and clothing along with her experience treating Lymphedema in Anderson.

Anderson Community Meeting will sponsor Long-time Lymphedema patient, Lewis Young as main speaker, with local Lymphedema therapist, Karen P. Jones, OT, of Lifestrides in Seneca South Carolina.

Lewis Young is a primary lymphedema patient who has been combating the condition since being diagnosed in 1972. His efforts have led him to Greenville Hospital for a treatment developed in Germany, Walchsee in Austria, Pennsylvania, Vero Beach FL and New York before developing a regimen of exercise through a class at the YMCA, adherence to a diet that stresses vegetables and fruits, self Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD), bandaging, and compression garments.

In addition to Mr. Lewis, local lymphedema therapist, Karen P. Jones, OT of Lifestrides in Seneca, SC. Karen will talk about lymphedema treatment, interact with Lewis and answer your questions. For more information, please contact Kathy Garraty in Anderson (864) 225-6784 (kathy.garraty@gmail.com).
